I am so glad you’re here for the launch of NVRLG Studio. I won’t take up too much of your time, but I will touch on a few things, and then I encourage you to explore the rest of the site (and send feedback if you fill so). You’ll notice that many pages are coming soon, and several collections are not here yet (still taking photos and working on adding one collection or category per week).
I’ve postponed this launching since forever and for so many times that I lost track, so now I decided inviting you in as I still work on this new space. Keep an eye on the site, newsletter and social media for updates.
First of all, I’d like you to know that NVRLG is a one woman playground around upcycling, handmaking and gathering together creatives (we all are) with same values and mission:
To give a new life to things already thrown to this world, who’ve had a long or short life here and deserve a longer and meaningful one, working on changing the consummatorist idea of letting go to anything that is “old, antiquated or damaged”.
About the past and how I started you’ll find more here, if you have time and curiosity; so let’s talk about the present and future. I do what I do in many forms…
… Handmake new items out of old ones, mostly preloved jeans and leather scraps sourced from the local leather craft studios, using various techniques, as basic stitches, to embroidery, applique, sashiko. Most of these new items are one of a kind, only jewelry being released in (very small) batches. More on every category or collection I will write on the Blog.
… Teach mending, embelishing and transforming techniques by hand in in-person workshops, aiming to transfer not only knowledge to the open hearted learners, but also awareness and love for the product, the process and the story they can tell with a needle and some colorful thread. Schedule of the coming public workshops will be published in the Workshops section.
… Mend, embelish and transform your garments on demand, in case doing that yourself is not your thing (each of us have different skills, pleasures and disponibilities, differences that make us so beautiful and unique), hoping to inspire you wearing that garment for a long time. More about this on the Repairs and Custom Orders pages.
I do this in Timisoara, Romania, in my small home studio – if it’s about pattern making and sewing, some nice and sustainable local partner locations – if it’s about workshops, and also in nature – it it’s about manual details, as embroidery and applique.
There are few reasons around my choice:
The emotion
Things, as people, have stories, that become more beautiful with time. For me, nothing compares to that joy I feel when meeting a childhood friend, looking thru vintage shops or finding a piece in my mother’s closet that belonged to my granma and now I myself can wear; they all come with stories of life and feelings. That is also what I feel when something “old” and unwearable as it is gets another face and a second (third, fourth…) life in my hands. The entire process and flow brings me joy and meaning and the final result is always an experience and surprise I cherish and am so, so grateful for.
The remembering/ legacy
I grow up in Romania, in a city crossed by the Danube, and spent all of my holidays at the country, at one pair of grandparents or the others. This was in the 80’s, in communism, when values and products of capitalism haven’t reached us yet with the magic of plastic and abundance of products in shops. This was when there was one shop in the whole village and had one or two kinds of fabric that one or two women in the village transformed in aprons for them, family and neighbors. This was when clothes were made from scratch, from planting, to fiber spinning, then to fabric weaving, cutting and sewing, and till embroidering; all by hand and in a very long time. This is was when holes in cooking pots, clothes and socks were repaired (because they were rare, hardly made and so precious). This was when children shared the few toys they had and the ones they handmade from fabric scraps, wood or leaves. This was when women gatheredtogether in the winter and shared space, handcrafting knowhow and emotions. This was when neighbors exchanged food, goods and help with seasonal field and garden work. This was NORMALITY and not just sustainability. And, in my opinion, this should be the future also, for a healthy planet and humanity.
The sacrifice
Most of the garments we have in our wardrobes in this moment of history are fast fashion (I myself had my own relationship with fast fashion before this), that meaning great sacrifices from humans and Earth. In short, waste of great resources of water in cotton farming, rivers colored in chemical colors, people being unwell treated and paid and dieing at their workplace, women and children abuse and exploitation at workplace, production globalization with huge pollution dued to transportation, pollution in synthetic fiber production and 200 year biodegradability with intoxication of our potable waters and air are just few of the atrocities hidden behind fashion as we’ve known it during the latest decades (three in Romania, more than ten in America, as example).

Ok, I think that’s all I have for the moment. I am so grateful for having you here, hope you’ll enjoy your visit and am looking forward to this new journey with such excitement. Sending you wishes for love, peace and lot of quality time on this beautiful planet we call home.
My story with mending is since forever. I’ve done this since childhood, when learnt by watching my grandma’s hands making stitches on garments she cherished. Those were long and slow moments when she paused her daily tasks in the house, took her crafting stuff and sat down on a chair on the porch or on …
