Looking to have a garment repaired (or embellished)?
At NVRLG we celebrate the beauty of long lasting relationships with things. Because we, humans, don’t need many things to live, but things, once made and thrown to this world, need their right people to give them a long way meaning(s) in life
Please, please, please be aware of and patient cause repairing is something that I’m still figuring out how to offer to others. I’ve done this for a lifetime for myself, and family and friends, as something natural and also as a therapy with a cup of tea near me, on my balcony or watching a movie, in the evening. But doing this for others is new to me and, regarding time consuming and costs involved.
For June and July, I do this in exchange for a donation of your choice, both to figure out how much time it takes from me, and what value you see in this kind of work. I do it only for Timisoara, for now, and I have some pick-up partner locations in work.
Whether a button came off your shirt, your pants ripped, a wool sock got thin or you made a hole in your dress, it’s not the end of the world and they shouldn’t end up in the landfill at the end of the world (or near your neighborhood), but get a place of honor in your everyday life, worn with pride with a repair that celebrates the imperfections that make them unique.
Each item of clothing or accessory is different and involves different techniques in repairing them. I use an array of techniques (and am still fascinated of learning new ones) to extend the lifespan of the items I’m working on. Here, some of them…
How it works
Step 1: Show me what you have
In order to make an idea and also an action plan, I’ll ask to see the item either in person or in clear and detailed photos.
You can get to me using the chat on the website and please:
– Send clear photos of the item; include your hand in the photo for scale.
– Share any limitations or preferences, as: mend as invisibly as possible/ mend visibly creatively/ do something special/ keep it simple/ keep it in a budget/ need it done till… etc.
Step 2: We make a plan
We’ll agree on a mending process: colors, technique, price. The last will reflect the time it takes to repair your darling, according to the complexity of the technique and the extent of the damage.
I mostly use recovered fabrics, threads and accessories, but, when the project requires, I also opt for new materials
Step 3: Timeframe
Once these are clear, I’ll be able to communicate you a deadline (that should not be longer than two week)
Step 4: Back to you
Once repaired, your item will be returned to you, in person, in one of the pick-up partner locations in Timisoara, or by mail.
… and hopefully you’ll love and wear it forever (or until another repair, embellish or transforming)
Some mending work I’ve done
Notes:
– I can mend various fabrics, knits and leather
– I can mend more than one item and make you a bundle offer
– I don’t have a particularly time for mending; I do it among my other projects and when I have time, ideas and good energy for it
